session

The ruling leadership within each local Presbyterian congregation is not the minister but the elders meeting together in Kirk Session. (Kirk is simply the old Scottish word for Church). Membership of Session is by election from amongst all full communicant members and subsequent ordination by Presbytery. Membership is for life or until resignation.

Maze currently has 16 elders who meet periodically through the year to discuss and decide on all matters concerning the spiritual direction of the congregation. Session's authority is very much corporate and addresses major issues affecting the overall direction of the congregation.
