The Hole in Our HolinessThe Hole in Our Holiness : Filling the Gap between Gospel Passion and the Pursuit of Godliness

Book Description:

The hole in our holiness is that we don't seem to care much about holiness. Or, at the very least, we don't understand it. And we all have our reasons too: Maybe the pursuit of holiness seems legalistic. Maybe it feels like one more thing to worry about in your already overwhelming life. Maybe the emphasis on effort in the Christian life appears unspiritual. Or maybe you've been trying really hard to be holy and it's just not working! Whatever the case, the problem is clear: too few Christians look like Christ and too many don’t seem all that concerned about it.

This is a book for those of us who are ready to take holiness seriously, ready to be more like Jesus, ready to live in light of the grace that produces godliness. This is a book about God's power to help us grow in personal holiness and to enjoy the process of transformation.

Available on Amazon and other book stores.

Mirror Ball by Matt Redmond

Mirror Ball by Matt Redmond - Book review

Published David C Cook

The subtitle for this easy read book is living boldly and shining brightly for the glory of God which reminds us of the wonderfully high calling and privilege we have of living for God

The theme illustration is taken from the type of mirror ball that is suspended from the ceiling in a disco room which when the light falls on it, casts that light in all directions. The thing about the mirror ball is that in and of itself it's small and actually doesn't have any tremendous power source of its own. That's what makes this such a good illustration of the way in which any individual Christian can be used for God. The mirror ball's effectiveness comes in the fact that it sets itself in front of the light source and doesn't need to draw attention to itself. A Christian can feel small, not terribly gifted yet be used in a great way by God and for God.

That's the challenge of this simple book. Redmond gives a host of other examples and inspirations but ultimately points to God himself as the one who make our lives big for God. It's the challenge of worship. Encountering God and radiating the effects of that encounter towards the lives of others.

The book includes a study guide at the end which further helps to think through the issues raised.
